Mnemonic series No. 14: Cane and Walker

Instructing patients how to use cane or walker is sometimes confusing. Figuring out what foot goes first and so on. The mnemonic below will help us easily recall how to use this assistive devices. And will save us from shameful, wrong instruction we might give to our patients.

CANES and WALKERS

CANE- COAL

C - Cane

O - Opposite

A - Affected

L- Leg

WALKER- W
