Instructing patients how to use cane or walker is sometimes confusing. Figuring out what foot goes first and so on. The mnemonic below will help us easily recall how to use this assistive devices. And will save us from shameful, wrong instruction we might give to our patients.

Giving Marriage Counseling a Try

I remember a friend of mine back then who always complains about her marriage being falling apart. She is not happy as things were not the same as before. They have two kids, an 11 year-old boy and a 7 year-old girl who seems to understand what is going on with their family. I have a hard time seeing my friend crying each day. I am trying to give her advise but to no use because I have never been married in the first place. I felt so sad for her because she is stressed out trying her best to work out their differences.

For months, things get worst ending up to calling the marriage off. She blames herself for not holding on so hard for her children. Her mother came for rescue, and advises her to seek help through marriage counseling which she agreed straight away. But unfortunately, her husband resent the idea. She tried to convince him for number of times for their children’s sake and at long last, got him to sit down with the counselor.

It took them 4 months to finally settle their differences and put back together their marriage for a second try. Now, I am pleased to see the smile I have never seen for a long time at my friend’s face. She can’t seem to imagine how they made it through. And glad they did.

Number of couples does not seek help because they think that private matters should remain private. Sometimes pride gets on the way. Accepting that there is a problem and seeking help is a solution, is a big step. A marriage counselor is there not to tell the couple what to do but to help them reach the best decision for both of them. Sometimes a couple needs a third person, a professional to reach realization.

Bridge Ammendment Did Not Survived

After all the endeavour HLG and other groups did, the bridge did not pass through the house and was not included in the budget. Yes, it is so sad but according to HLG, we still have a chance before the year ends to be included in the a budget bills. Let us hope for the best.

It's been a tough year for us health workers who are just trying our fate to give a better future for our love ones. But remember, the world is round. We will be on top sooner even if it turns in a slow motion in favour for us. We may taste the bitterness of life but in some way it will bring another opportunity and chance.

While we are here, why not use the time to focus on things we never gave attention before, things that was there all along or do something that would give a beam to people that surrounds us. Maybe it will give meaning to our life.“We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”

CPR and Using AED

Watch this demo video which I think is very helpful to refresh our CPR courses. The scene was inside the hospital while one of the visitors collapsed at the nurse station. There is one scene that the responder (who is a nurse) told her staff to call '911'. There are comments on you tube that why they need to call 911 if they are in the hospital. I think they mean about 911 is the hospital's code blue team. In some facilities, when someone is in cardiac arrest there is a number they have to call to activate emergency respond system. Some code it as "911", '188","code blue" depending on the hospital protocol. Then the team will come to assist and help.

Well, that is just my opinion. I guess better watch it and tell me what you think.

When assessing patient with a complain of a Right Lower Quadrant pain, the first thing that would come to our mind as a differential diagnosis is APPENDICITIS. And it is very true! Reviving RN Stuff!

When my Nurses Thoughts blog became Google PageRank 3/10, I decided to delete my other nursing blog which is RN Stuff because I was not able to maintain and update it. But when I checked its PageRAnk it is 2/10! I was not that aware that still, RN Stuff has visitors. Even if I almost forgot that I own that one! So what I did was, I revived it. I change the template, make it pleasant to look and easy to navigate.
